Manual and Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) Machining and Turning

Turning Capabilities

IIDEA Ltd have range of precision turning machines at our facility on the Advanced Manufacturing Park, Catcliffe, Rotherham. This range of machines coupled with extensive experience in processing a wide variety of materials from copper and aluminium alloys, alloy and stainless steels through to titanium and nickel alloys allows us to undertake complex and demanding machining tasks from small ‘one-offs’, small batches to complex, multi component assemblies.

Our largest turning centre is the CNC programmable HAAS dual spindle DS30 lathe. This machine has twin driven spindles capable of a fast 4000RPM and has sufficient torque and rigidity for the machining of the toughest of materials. In addition, through the application of both chucks this machine allows both front and back of a component to be machined without the need of operator intervention.

Smaller components and test pieces are taken care of on the DOOSAN Lynx 220B.

In addition to the CNC programmable lathes IIDEA also have manual machining capabilities, accomplished using the ACRE FCL-14X40 lathe. This is used mainly for rough-turning operations in preparation for final machining but is also utilised for drilling and centring operations.

Turning Machines

The HAAS DS30 is a dual-spindle CNC lathe with a 22.4 kW Vector driven, 4000 rpm 8.3-inch spindle chuck together with a second 8.3 inch driven chuck this time 14.9 kW vector driven to 4000 rpm. The key advantage of this set up is the ability to machine one side of a component, then (geometry allowing) to hold the component in the second chuck and complete machining of the back face without any operator intervention. The DS30 also features a 12-station hybrid turret tooling system allowing for quick tool changes. The DS30 is a production lathe and is used primarily with the CAD-CAM systems.

IIDEA also have a second Doosan lathe, a Doosan Lynx 220. This machine is a high speed, high precision turning center, which is again operated using the Doosan-Fanuc i-series CNC programming system and controlled through CAD-CAM software.
