IIDEA were asked to manufacture some custom, heavy-duty test machine fixtures for use on a fracture toughness testing rig. The specifics of the testing are unknown but involve the testing of some high-strength steel as part of a research and development project at Materials and Engineering Research Institute (MERI) at Sheffield Hallam University. The manufacture of these test machine components followed on from some work IIDEA undertook for the university involving the manufacture of a set of custom hubs for the Sheffield Hallam Universities Student Racing Team SHU Racing.
This was a slightly different application to the racing car parts IIDEA previously manufactured for the university but we are always happy to get involved in something new and the manufacture of these high-strength test rig fittings is certainly something a little different.
