The final parts produced by IIDEA Limited for the 2018 Sheffield Hallam University Student Racing Team SHU Racing Team were delivered this week. These parts are the suspension rockers and were manufactured by IIDEA Limited on the Advanced Manufacturing Park, Catcliffe near Rotherham.
The rockers were machined from high-strength titanium alloy 6Al/4V which is as strong as steel but only around half the density. These rockers have been produced in addition to the hubs also supplied by us in the same grade of titanium alloy and the hub carriers / uprights manufactured from light-weight aircraft grade aluminium alloy all delivered last week.
This is the third year IIDEA have sponsored the team through the manufacture and supply of components for the team. Each year the parts continue to evolve further as more information is taken on board for the previous year's designs. The car continues to evolve in incremental steps rather than being a total new design each year allowing the teams to start from a position of strength building on the foundations of previous generations of vehicles. Every year the SHU Racing Team work hard to produce their car which is no mean feat when mixed in alongside revision and exams. We are really excited to see the 2018 car as it progresses and cannot wait for the official launch later in the summer.
